Evolution

CATS has been conceived in 1987 with the help of aviation control software engineers to realize a lightning data processing system. It was originally developed on a Gould micro computer running Unix. A modular design separates the core elements:

Acquisition module

Lightning data base

Real time servers

Geographic data base

Formatted product generation

The Lightning data bases results form a custom development aimed at providing a cost effective solution for storing all the data delivered by the network (sensor data and localized data). The data storage relies on the Unix file system An extended SQL allows for data selection and processing

1991: Cats is ported to the SunOS operating system.

1992: One run time license sold to ALDIS (Austria).

1993: Two run time licenses installed at Météo-France.

1994: Acquisition and storage upgraded to "all stroke processing". Two licenses installed at CESI (Italy)

1995: User customizable software implementation.

1996: Support of different native languages. Creation of the Alarm system. LP2000 compatibility

1997: Sensor monitoring products appears.

1998: Cats is ported to Solaris 2.5.1. Creation of graphic user interfaces for users and administrators. Cats development team increases.

1999: Y2K checks and compliance. Customer data base graphic interface. Graphic interface for geographic data management. Introduction of web real time observation service. One runtime license is installed in INM (Spanish met service).

2000: Support of Solaris 7 and 8. Introduction of web services and Java Observation. One run time license is installed at ONT (Tunisian Broadcasting Entity).
