METEORAGE and RECASE Partner to Enhance Lightning Risk Prevention in Wind Energy with Advanced Solutions
Thunderstorms and lightning represent a significant environmental risk for wind power. The aim of the collaboration between the two companies is to enable wind energy operators and German companies to support all phases in the life of a wind farm – from assessment, construction, operation and maintenance to repowering – with proactive lightning risk management.

Marco Hansen, Vice President of Service Engineering at RECASE, highlights the impact of this collaboration on the customer experience:
“From our experience, we know that wind turbines are often struck by lightning, but that lightning is not always recognised as the cause of damage or failure.
In addition, the lightning protection system can be affected or pre-damaged by frequent lightning strikes. If this goes undetected, there is an increased risk of lightning damage to the wind turbine.
Using METEORAGE data makes it easier to recognise the frequency and causality of lightning events and to take appropriate action.”
